Visual Arts Program for People with Memory Loss

Ridge Meadows residents living with memory loss are invited to explore their creative side through a free visual arts program for adults 55+. This month the Dementia Friendly Community Task Group of the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie, Seniors Network is launching the first of two, six-week offerings. The first session runs Feb. 23 – March 30, Wednesday mornings from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre. The second session will begin in April.

Participants will explore a range of art mediums from collage to clay with social time to visit, enjoy a coffee, and make connections. No previous art experience is necessary.

The Creative Dimension Visual Arts Program is part of a larger initiative by the Task Group to build a dementia friendly community by reducing the stigma, addressing fear, and educating residents on ways they can support their neighbours and friends. The community will be invited to attend a showing of the participants artwork during Seniors Week which is celebrated June 4-11 in British Columbia this year.
